Join long time Occupational Therapist and Yoga Instructor Allison Morgan for this three-part online course. Learn to bring the practices of yoga and mindfulness safely and effectively to neurodiverse students.
Explore the following topics:
- GUIDELINES AND PRACTICES TO MOVE FROM A THERAPEUTIC MINDSET TO A YOGIC HEART
Educational and therapeutic paths to helping neurodiverse children thrive are often driven by diagnosing, problem solving and goal setting. While these approaches have been implemented for decades, the ancient practices of yoga and mindfulness inspire us to shift our focus and flip the paradigm, looking beyond the typical physical, emotional, sensory and cognitive realms. Explore how this change in perspective can supply us, and these amazing children with new ways to flourish, regardless of diagnosis or circumstance.
- SENSORY PROCESSING SUCCESS THROUGH YOGA AND MINDFULNESS
A majority of neurodiverse children with diagnoses such as Autism and ADHD, have a contributing sensory processing challenge. This greatly impacts the way in which they perceive sensory experiences and interact in the world. At times, information enters their system with great force and intensity, which can be overwhelming and confusing. Other times, they seek input, demonstrating an excessive need for movement or touching everything in their path. In this webinar, we will explore each of the sensory systems to provide you with a solid understanding of how sensory processing occurs within the nervous system. You will also learn fun, interactive yoga based activities for the sensory seekers and avoiders, which help them to hone and understand their own sensory needs.
- INTEGRATING REFLEXES: AN ESSENTIAL BUILDING BLOCK FOR BODY AWARENESS, BALANCE AND MOTOR PLANNING
During the first year of life, our innate primitive reflexes generate a majority of our movement. Through the progression of “normal” or typical development, these reflexes become integrated within the nervous system, allowing us to enjoy volitional movement. Many neurodiverse children retain these reflexes, getting stuck in these patterns. This inhibits their ability to freely explore, play, interact, communicate and learn. In this webinar, you will discover the most common reflexes that are retained and how to apply specific yoga movement and breath sequences to help the brain integrate, develop and organize.
