Making Mindfulness Stick with Your Family
The best way to create mindful and compassionate kids is by surrounding them with mindful and compassionate adults. Join author and psychologist Chris Willard for an online workshop for parents, therapists, educators and other looking for creative ways to practice themselves and share mindfulness with the kids in their lives. Mindfulness is more than just breathing, so we will discuss practice through awareness, movement, games, play, and creative activities for all ages.
Special emphasis will be placed on getting young people to buy in, as well as on nurturing mindfulness in their daily lives. We will also explore the importance of our own practice, starting or deepening our own mindful self-care and self-compassion as caregivers. We will also cover strategies for starting mindfulness programs in larger institutions such as schools and hospitals.
Learning differences, cultural differences, developmental differences, not to mention settings like classrooms or offices all affect how we and our kids practice best, and this workshop explores ways to adapt mindfulness for your life, rather than approach with a one-size fits all approach. Different practices can engage different learning styles through arts, sports, games, music, technology and more, for attention spans ranging from 30 seconds to 30 minutes.
- Explore fun ways to adapt mindfulness for kids and families.
- Discover new ways to engage kids in mindfulness.
- Consider and create new adaptations of mindfulness and compassion based practices for kids and adults.
- Learn basic science about the role of mindfulness, compassion and self-compassion in attachment and attunement.
